This piece marks the beginning of my Woodland Series — a collection of freehand pyrography works inspired by the quiet, watchful life of the forest. Burned over more than twenty hours, this 14" natural‑edge slab features an owl, fox, hedgehog, and field mouse, each tucked into their own moment of stillness. Every line and shadow was created entirely freehand, allowing the animals and their surroundings to emerge organically from the grain.
The natural bark edge frames the scene with a sense of place, grounding the artwork in the landscape that inspired it. This is a one‑of‑a‑kind original, created as the anchor for a growing body of woodland pieces exploring different animals, plants, and forest stories.
